  1. One thing I discovered about Ancient Greece was that places like the Colosseum were used for a variety of sports and other sorts of Roman entertainment. Gladiatorial bouts, public executions, wild animal hunts, re-enactments of famous battles, mock naval warfare, and numerous dramas from Greek mythology were among the most famous spectacles. The original purpose of the Colosseum was to organize funeral games to honor wealthy Romans who had died. Human sacrifice rites for their pagan gods were thought to appease them and gain them passage into the afterlife by the ancient Romans. It was built as a gift to the Roman people by Emperor Vespasian and is located east of the Roman Forum.

I also learned that the Battle of Thermopylae was a setback for the Greek alliance, it was also a victory. It signaled the start of a string of significant Greek triumphs over the Persians, as well as a shift in Greek morale. It is hailed as a model of heroic perseverance in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds. Following the fight, the Greeks construct a stone lion to commemorate those who had died, particularly the slain king Leonidas.

I also learned about the Greek gods how how some lived in mount Olympus. The Greeks fashioned pictures of their gods for a variety of reasons. The statue of a deity or goddess, or numerous deities, would be housed in a temple, which would be ornamented with relief scenes illustrating myths. On coins, divine images were common. Scenes from Greek tales were painted on drinking cups and other containers.

  2. What I have learned about Greek culture is that it has deeply influence todays government politics when it comes to electing leaders. For example Democracy by the people for the people. Meaning the people made you and should give back to them or somewhat. Ancient Greece were also very prideful especially the Spartans. Spartans were also built for battle but that's widely known.

What I've also also learned about Roman culture is their landmarks. The Circus Maximus was used for chariot races, parades, and enough to seat 250,000 people. The Roman Forum was an oratory, a place for the government to settle debates. The Flavian Amphitheater was a colosseum used for entertainment. The final landmark would be the imperial palace which most emperors would live in.

  3. King Leonydis disobeyed the counsel's vote and took 300 men with him to fight a battle to encourage the thousands of soldiers to commit to the war. This is very important information that lead to very important actions such as the war. The Roman Republic describes the period in which the city-state of Rome existed as a republican government.

The ancient Greeks were the first to create a democracy. The word “democracy” comes from two Greek words that mean people (demos) and rule (kratos). Democracy is the idea that the citizens of a country should take an active role in the government of their country and manage it directly or through elected representatives.

  5. 1 thing I learned was the fact that the Greek army weren't complete brutes. They had pretty good strategies and they were trained extensively. They were formidable opponents on the battlefield. Another thing is the fact that they never gave up from battle or surrendered, in fact they went to battle whenever it would help strengthen Greek. Even with only 300 men they gracefully accepted the fact that they would lose sooner or later no matter what they did.
I also learned that for a place that has children breed just for war, that have a pretty good and thriving city. Nothing seems to be out of the ordinary and it's just children running around and playing games. They aren't just training all day or under strict rules. But them throwing disabled babies off cliffs is a bit of a bad thing, that's not a good thing for their track record. But overall for a city with the whole bred for war, warriors fight thing, the city seems pretty peaceful.

  6. 3 things I have learned about Ancient Greek and Roman culture and democracy is that in Rome there is a place called Pantheon The Pantheon has one of the most perfect interior spaces ever constructed—and it’s been copied ever since. Another thing is in Rome is Circus Maximus A place for sporting events. The other place I learned about is Roman Forum a place oratory, it was a place for government.

  7. The first thing that I've learned, is about the ''300'' film is that even though it was a small group that battled, they worked together. Also, it inspired the Greeks during the battle because they saw how small of a group battling and won. The second thing I learned, is about the ancient Greeks were the first to create a democracy. The word democracy has a background from two Greek words that mean people.

Also, democracy means a system of government by the whole population or all the eligible members of a state, typically through elected representatives. The third thing that I’ve learned, is about the tour because it shows, what things were before and what they were used for. Also, it gives a brief explanation of what each building was and how old it was and how it was used before. The virtual tour was also about how people used it before and how some of these buildings are used in today generation.

  8. 3 things that I learned about the ancient Greek and Roman culture and democracy were that king Leonidas started the war over slaveries. he didn't like the idea of him and his people becoming slaves. also i also learned that the Rome coliseum was build to see gladiators fight and to hurt animals. the Circus Maximus was used to do a lot of things like Here is wee you will see racetracks for horses and also see gladiator fights.

  9. I learned that in the Ancient Greek and Roman culture and democracy is that they are strict about the men in the army, they only want healthy well built men in the army. If you have any disability or condition they dispose you. They said its unholy to go to battle during a holiday or holy moment. Young boys start practicing to be in the army at a young age.
Women did not have rights and couldn't talk against men and have no opinion. The men state that its best to die during battling. They prefer to die during war because it shows respect that they died while fighting for their city/state. These are the things main things I learned about the Ancient Greek and Roman culture and democracy.

  10. 1. Something I learned about ancient Greek civilization is Women could never talk amongst men. This means that women never had a say on what people could do. All though, men could order women around like it was nothing. In the movie 300 there was a part where this man tried to say that king Leonidas’ wife wanted to send more men to the army, and in return she gave him “sexual favors”. The counsel believed him because he’s a man.

Speaking of the counsel, they didn’t want to send Leonidas more men because they voted to not have a war. Since King Leonidas didn’t have an army, he brought his best soldiers to be his “bodyguards”. Lastly what I learned is that it was better to die in war than to be a slave. In the movie “300” one of Leonidas’ soldiers said that he’d rather die in war than to be enslaved.

  11. I learned that Spartans never give up even if they are about to die I also learned that Spartans are very strong and very good fighters because 300 of them beat multiple army and won. i also learned that democrasy is a system of government by the whole population or all the eligible members of a state, typically through elected people

  12. One thing i learned about Ancient Greek and Roman Culture was that the Greek government heavily influenced todays government. Another thing that i have learned from these topics was the Circus Maximus was used for chariot races, parades, and enough to seat 250,000 people. The last thing that i have learned over this couple weeks was that the Greeks created democracy. - Miklos Martins

  13. One thing I learned so far about the movie 300 is that the Spartans went to war. The Spartans went to war with only 300 Spartans. They almost beat the odds until the last war. They went to war with so little people and won battles against thousands. They didn't end up winning the last war but they died while fighting which is something they wanted.

Other things I learned was Ancient Greek. I learned the Places in Ancient Greek like old statues and stadiums. I also learned about the Roman Culture. Architecture is a big part of Roman culture.

    ReplyDelete
  14. what I learned about the about the Anciened Greek and Roman culture and democaracy is the Circus of Maximax and how it was Used for chariot and race among other things it was also used for parades. The Greeks had flat bread called "plakous". The Bathes of Caracalla was a Complex of ancient Rome. I also learned that the there was lots of Nero’s golden house It covered 120 acres. I've also learned that the 300 was a group of men that went to fight

    ReplyDelete
  15. I learned that in the Ancient Greek and Roman culture and democracy is that they are strict about the men in the army, they only want healthy well and strong men. If a baby was born with a disability they would take the baby and throw it off a cliff. They say its unholy to go to battle during a holiday or holy moment, which is why they didn't let leonydis go to battle. Young boys start practicing to be in the army at a place where they would fight each other to see who is stronger than the other.
Women did not have rights and couldn't talk against men and couldn't really give their opinion on the topic. The men say that the most beautiful death is dying in battle. They say that it is a beautiful death because it shows respect that they died while fighting for their city/state. These are some of the main things I learned about the Ancient Greek and Roman culture and democracy.

    ReplyDelete
  16. two thing I learned about Greek and Rome culture is that they do everything the same but they like to use different terms for some words. another thing I learned is that they like the healthy and tough guys they don't like some weaklings in the group.

  40. 1. something I think most world religions have in common is that most of them believe in one thing and look down upon other religions.

What most world religions have in common is that their God is the creator of everything. Some of them also have many Gods like in India.

The reason why people fight over religion is because they think their God is the right God and the only one to exist. People want to be right and will criticize you for something you believe in it's just human nature.

  49. What most world religions have in common is the fat that they all believe some kind of god or gods exist, plus the fact that in certain times they had some kind of extreme power or if you didn't believe in it you would be killed. Christianity back then had a lot of power that the church utilized and they had almost complete control over the place.
Humans fight over religion because they want other people to believe that their god exist but not the other, there is also the fact that they try to make as much as people as possible believe in their religion. Most of the people who fight over religion end up not fitting the criteria or breaking the main rules for their beliefs
